COMPLETE BLOOD COUNT, NO DIFFERENTIAL (CBC)

Basic blood count evaluating red cell, white cell, and platelet parameters without a breakdown of white cell subtypes, typically used for routine monitoring when a differential is not clinically indicated.

LIS PANEL CODE: (MID) Complete Blood Count, No Diff

INDIVIDUAL LIS TEST CODES INCLUDED WITHIN PANEL: WBC, RBC, HGB, HCT, MCV, MCH, MCHC, RDW-CV, PLT, MPV

CPT CODE: 85027

ALIASES: CBC, CBC without Differential, CBC without Diff, Hemogram, PLT Count

METHODOLOGIES: Hydrodynamic Impedance, Laser-Based Flow Cytometry, Sodium Lauryl Sulfate (SLS) Hemoglobin

SPECIMEN:

- Type: Whole Blood

- Container: Lavender Top (K2/K3 EDTA) Vacutainer

- Minimum Volume Required: 0.5 mL

- Storage/Handling: Gently invert specimen 8 - 10 times immediately following blood collection to prevent clotting. Maintain specimen at room temperature or in the refrigerator until testing can be performed.

- Stability:

Room Temperature (20-25 °C): 1 day

Refrigerated (2-8 °C): 2 days (please note however that cellular degeneration can occur as soon as 24 hours post-collection)

- Turnaround Time: 24 hours from receipt.

Special InstructionsThis panel does not include a white blood cell (WBC) differential and will not automatically reflex to a manual differential or peripheral smear review, regardless of result flags. If a differential is clinically indicated based on the total WBC count or other findings, it must be ordered separately as CBC with Auto Differential (CBCWD).

REJECTION REASONS: Clotted Specimen, QNS, Gross Hemolysis, Gross Lipemia, Contamination, Stability Violation, Expired Container, Incorrect Container
